What's the purpose of the mirrors held up

to Jareth's face in the ballroom scene?

Jareth & mirror

Hey, has anyone given any thought to the part in the ballroom where those two women are holding mirrors up to Jareth's face? When they pull the mirrors away, he disappears. I was thinking that maybe it was symbolic of magicians, maybe like "It's all done with mirrors" kind of thing.

Yeah, I brought that up a month or so ago...most hadn't noticed that part. I don't think anyone could come up with a palpable reason as to why that was done. (Although if you watch Inside the Labyrinth, in the section where Gates McFadden is choreographing the ballroom scene dancers, you'll see the women holding the mirrors, dancing to the men, and then holding the mirrors to the mens' faces. This leads me to assume it was generally how they were to dance in Jareth's kingdom.) If you think about it, ballroom dances with mirrors would be appropriate in his kingdom...considering how vain Jareth is....(Well, he did change his clothes at least 11 times in the movie...)
